This is a value that should be taught to our kids at an early stage. Life is hard and only gets harder as we grow up. As parents, we know we will face many obstacles in life, in school, work, and even marriage. It is important of us to learn how to deal with situations and resolve them, not just ignore the issue and hope it will go away. We need to have the courage to face our problems and fears, try our hardest, and never give up. Children are usually interested in starting new things, but more often than not lose interest and focus early on. It is easy for parents to allow their children to give something up and jump to the next thing they show interest in. Parents rationalize this to be allowing their children to explore and find themselves, their likes, their strengths. However, this could be a double edged sword. It is important to let children find what they like and explore their options, but sometimes letting them jump around from interest to interest while never committing to finishing what they've started can be damaging instead of enriching. Children need to learn to finish what they've started, to continue trying their hardest at something of value even when it's difficult, demanding, or hard work. Martial Arts teaches this. Work hard, focus on your goal, and don’t give up until you are there.
